Editor’s note: In the last week so many things in the Middle East have taken place that it is hard to keep up. It is even more difficult to properly asses who is who in this mindless destruction of nation states.
Here is a selection of articles with brief extracts and links to the original. By getting a general overview a true picture emerges. The original intention of the US, UK, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Jordan and Israel, in spite of a very successful election in Syria, plan B has been put into operation. There are NO MODERATE “TERRORISTS,” they are all affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood in one way or another.
The outcome? Deposing Assad, destroying the Syrian Army, breaking up Syria into a Sunni Wahhabi conglomerate of vassal states as part of a larger Caliphate under the control of Turkey and a new “Ottoman Empire,” with “Greater Israel” extending from the Nile to the Euphrates River as their ally, and let’s not forget the pipeline running from Qatar through Syria to Israel and Turkey.
And lastly, the “final solution” for all Christians, some of the oldest Christian communities in the world, annihilation. Not only in the Middle East, but in Europe where in the last year we have seen it flooded with Islamic extremists. And you are STILL asking yourself who the anti-Christ is? No doubt the bombing of Iran will soon follow. For Further reading see:
Before 2011, Israel hinted that it would return Golan to Syria as part of a comprehensive peace agreement – provided Damascus ceased supporting Palestinian claims to their lost lands. But once the Syrian civil war conveniently began, there was no more talk of Golan.
In fact, it’s pretty much clear that Israel has been quietly fueling the Syrian conflict by discreet arms and logistics support to so-called “moderate” Syrian rebels and lobbying for the war in Washington and with the US media. …
Zeev Jabotinsky, a militant Russian Zionist …asserted that the Arab states were an artificial, fragile mosaic of inimical Arab tribes.
Hit them hard enough, claimed Jabotinsky, and they will shatter into small pieces, leaving Israel master of the Levant (central Arab world). The destruction of Iraq and Syria have confirmed Jabotinsky’s theory.
Accordingly, Israel is delighted to see Syria, a primary foe, lying in ruins as a result of a US, British, French, Turkish and Saudi-instigated civil war. Damascus is in no shape to demand the return of Golan, and the rest of the world does not care.
The destruction of Syria as a unitary state offers the expansionist Likud government many opportunities to extend influence into Syria – as was the case in Lebanon during its bloody 1975-1990 civil war. Or even carve off more Syrian territory “to protect Israel’s security.”
The vehicle was packed with land mines, RPG’s with ammo, B9 cannons, mortars (120mm, 80mm & 60mm) and grenades; all of which had Hebrew inscription which suggested them to have been provided by Israel. The weapons were likely delivered to Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions in the Golan Heights and then driven to as Swaida’a through the Daraa governorate.
The CIA’s Plan B for Syria: Supporting Al Qaeda [“Moderate Terrorists”], Repeating the Mistake of Afghanistan – Dmitry Evstafiev
The key point about Plan B is that American policy in Syria (and in the Middle East in general) is becoming more chaotic, more oriented toward rapid results and much more unscrupulous. It’s doubtful that Washington will find the strength to get out of the ‘vicious Middle East circle’ it created.
A ‘window of opportunity’ for Russian-American cooperation in the Syria-Iraq conflict is shutting down….
Crucially, the key is delivery of portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) designed to defend the ‘moderate opposition’ from air strikes. American policy in the Middle East came full circle and returned to the same political ‘crossroads’ where, in 1986 by delivering MANPADS to Afghan ‘freedom fighters’, as Ronald Reagan called them, it gave the Afghan conflict a new dimension.
Note that the ‘Afghan International’ formed around American (and Chinese, by the way) arms deliveries, was the forebear of Al-Qaeda and the ‘spiritual grandfather’ of ISIS, the organization the US is now desperately fighting. Americans are right when they suggest that Al-Qaeda, among others, was created and supported by Saudi money. But they deliberately forget that the ‘Afghan international’ was created by Americans.
American policy has returned to the same point, with almost the same allies, the same ideas and the same ignorance of consequences but with a new technological level that makes it extremely dangerous.
Most principal actors involved in the American political and propaganda process around Syria denied the existence of such plan, noting that, if there was any, MANPADS would be equipped with a ‘location-based system’ that would limit the area of their use. But this peculiar Plan B was denied in such a way that the unpleasant taste remained. Everyone understood that there was a plan, but so far it appears too risky to announce it at a higher level than anonymous ‘CIA sources’.
The problem with Plan B is not that it will result in the destabilization of the entire Middle East. The mere fact that this information appeared, even as propaganda, to pressure Russia (or at least, Iran and Assad), shows the level of geopolitical irresponsibility that prevails today in Washington. Seeking revenge, the American administration crossed a propaganda red line, removing another restraint on the world information war, which it had hesitated to cross even during height of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine
America to the Rescue of Al Qaeda in Syria: Washington Opposes Placing Saudi, Turkish ‘Proxies’ on UN Terror List – Sputnik
The United States objects to adding Ahrar ash-Sham and Jaish al-Islam to the UN sanctions list because they operate as proxy forces inside Syria for key allies like Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar, experts told Sputnik.
On Wednesday, US State Department spokesperson Mark Toner said putting Ahrar ash-Sham and Jaish al-Islam on the sanctions list would be damaging to the cessation of hostilities in Syria.
Russia submitted a request to the United Nations on Wednesday to add the two groups to the terrorist list, which already contains the Daesh and al-Qaeda.
“Jaish al-Islam is Saudi Arabia’s proxy [in Syria]. Ahrar ash-Sham is mixed… [they are] Saudi, Qatari and Turkish proxies,” University of Ottawa Countering Violent Extremism specialist Kamran Bokhari told Sputnik.
The United States, Bokhari continued, objects to designating Ahrar ash-Sham and Jaish al-Islam as terrorist entities because three of Washington’s key allies in the region are supporting these groups.
US opposition to the move, Bokhari added, has nothing to do with a ceasefire in Syria that never existed in the first place.
Earlier on Friday, Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva Alexey Borodavkin said Moscow has not received confirmation that Jaish al-Islam and Ahrar ash-Sham have joined the new ceasefire regime in Syria, that is supposed to take effect in Syria’s capital Damascus and its suburbs for 24 hours and in Latakia for 72 hours at midnight on April 30.
“the Russian main goals are to destroy ISIL, strengthen the Syrian army and to emasculate the armed opposition. Then, an effective dialogue can launched between the Syrians that can be frank and honest,” the source said.
“Russia will protect the free will of the Syrian people, but will not decide their future. Alternatives to President Bashar al Assad do not exist today, and the problem of 40 million Kurds in the Middle East must be solved,” the source added.
“Russia will force the US to act for the good of Syria and the entire Middle East. Previous years have proven cannot single-handedly command the world, and Washington will not risk a direct confrontation with Moscow in Syria,” the source concluded.
… Syria, the cradle of Christian, Muslim, and other ancient civilization will not be left alone. Catholic and orthodox leaders will meet to prevent the collapse of Syria, which represents the column of light, and Saint George is the slogan of the Russian air force….
US-Russian showdown is looming in the horizon after the arrival of 250 US special operations forces to Hasakeh, Syria, and the number is believed to reach 500 in the coming days.
European Department for Security and Information Secretary General Haissam Bou Said Divulged that US special operations forces dispatched to Rumelan, province of Hasakeh, in Syria were tasked with “preparing for a ground invasion if and when the truce fails.”
US officials have openly spoken about plan B and said “Syrian army will be banned from realizing a complete victory, and the US will continue supporting the moderate opposition.”
The US will rely on its military bases in Incerlik, Turkey and al Anabar, Iraq to combine a military coalition under the umbrella of the NATO if plan B relating to the federal affairs is not being implemented.
Turkey want to seize the border town of Manbij in Aleppo to guarantee that ISIS can move easily in and out of Syria. Turkey have also ambitions to seize the city of Mosel in Iraq.
The Pentagon sent more troops and military experts to Iraq under the pretext of disallowing ISIS to win more territories and training the Iraqi military. However, the US final aim is questionable.
The Battle for Aleppo: Planning of Massive Military Operation against Remaining 10,000 Strong Terrorist Force – South Front
Syria’s forces continue military operations in Eastern Ghouta near Damascus. On April 28, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and allies cut off Al Nusra’s main supply line in Marj al-Sultan. This allowed to cut the militants’ supply road to the villages of Zibdeen and Deir al-Assafir.
Pro-government sources report, if the militants aren’t able to seize Bala al-Qadhima in the nearest future, they will be completely cut off and encircled in this area. Now, the loyalists are in full control of the Harasta al-Qantara-Bezineh road that had been the main communication line between the Northern and Southern parts of the militants’ enclaves.
We remember, Syria’s forces captured the town of al-Qadhima on Wednesday and almost divided the militant-ctonrolled area of the Eastern Ghouta into two separated parts.
A large number of fresh reinforcements arrived in the province of Aleppo on Thursday as different sources argue the army is going to launch massive operations against the remaining 10,000-strong terrorist force in the provincial capital. Earlier this month Syrian and Iranian sources reported that the commanders of the Syrian Ground and Air Forces, Iranian-backed militias and the Russian military advisors set a joint HQ in order to coordinate the last preparations for a large-scale operation in Aleppo.
Meanwhile, according to US experts, Russia reportedly delivered weapons and ammunition to support the Syrian Kurdish YPG in the Afrin Canton of the province in April 2016. This allows to suggest that the loyalists’ forces intend to cooperate with the Syrian Kurds in order to complete the encirclement of Aleppo City from the north. In early February 2016, The Kurds engaged in similar battlefield coordination with Russia in order to sever the primary militants supply route between Aleppo City and Turkey
Death and Destruction in Iraq, Extensive US War Crimes: Apocalypse in Mosul in the Guise of Bombing ISIS- Felicity Arbuthnot
The nation is pinned between a tyrannical, corrupt US puppet government, a homicidal, head chopping, raping, organ eating, history erasing, US-spawned ISIS – and a renewed, relentless US bombardment. So much for the 2008 US-Iraq State of Forces agreement, which stated that by 31st December 2011: “all United States forces shall withdraw from all Iraqi territory.”
So another onslaught in a quarter of a century of bombing Iraq is underway – another mass murder with a silly name: “Operation Inherent Resolve.”
Here is reality from Dr Souad Al-Azzawi, Award winning environmental scientist who gained her Ph.D from the Colorado School of Mines.
She states of just the onslaught on Mosul, her home, the ancient university city of 1.5 million, that the stated figures from US spokespersons are: “ either misinformed about the real situation on the ground, since they are using drones and guided missiles, or airstrikes blindly, intentionally not saying the truth.
“I would like to list SOME of what the American’s airstrikes have been targeting and killing in Mosul:
* Destroyed are all state services buildings, including Municipalities in right and left sides of Mosul. When they bomb at night, all security personnel get killed or injured, also residents of close by areas, and adjacent properties are destroyed.
* Bombed and destroyed all communication centers.
* Destruction of Dairy Production Factories in both left and right sides of Mosul. Casualties of these two are one hundred deaths and two hundred injuries among civilians who gathered to receive milk and dairy products from the factories.
Dr Al-Azzawi reminds that this is reminiscent of the bombing of the baby milk factor outside Baghdad in 1991 with the claim it was a chemical weapons factory. This writer visited the factory ruins just months later, there were still charred containers of milk power – the machinery was provided and maintained by a company in Birmingham, England which specialized in infant food prodiction.
* Bombing of Mosul Pharmaceutical Industries.
* Mosul University was bombed with ninety two deaths and one hundred and thirty five injuries. Earlier estimates were higher, but many were pulled from the rubble alive. “They were students, faculty members, staff members, families of faculties, and restaurants workers.”
*Al Hadbaa and Al Khadraa Residential Apartments compounds. Fifty people killed (families) and one hundred injured.
* Hay al Dhubat residential area in the right side of Mosul, two days ago, five women women and four children killed and the whole house. The father is a respected pharmacist who has nothing to do with ISIL.
* Destruction of houses in front of the Medical College, killed twenty two civilians – eleven in one family.
* Bombing Sunni Waqif Building, twenty deaths and seventy injuries which included those in nearby commercial and residential buildings.
* Car maintenance industrial areas in both left and right sides of Mosul destroyed with civilian’s casualties.
* Bombing of flour factories in both sides of Mosul.
* Rafidain and Rasheed banks and all their branches in both sides of Mosul. Destruction of all commercial and residential areas in the vicinity of these places, with as yet unknown civilian casualties. (My emphasis.)
* Central Bank of Mosul in Ghazi Street, with nearby residential and commercial properties.
* Pepsi factory, currently producing ice cubes only. Three deaths and twelve injuries among the workers.
* The Governor’s house and close by guest house.
* Mosul’s old industrial compound destroyed, with parking area for fuel Tankers and cars. Three days ago, huge explosion of fuel tankers, one hundred and fifty deaths and injuries.
* Urban Planning Directory in Hay al Maliyah bombed.
* Engineering Planning Directory in Hay al Maliyah bombed.
* Food Storages in left side of Mosul bombed.
* Drinking water treatment plants bombed.
* All electrical generation and transformer stations in the left side of Mosul bombed.
* Domez land communications center in left side of Mosul destroyed.
*Al Hurairah Bridge – and many more.
There is a sickening familiarity to some of the targets – food, pharmaceuticals, water treatment plants, electricity generation, communications and educational facilities, bridges (the country, towns and cities are divided by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers) have been favoured targets since 1991. Every time painstakingly and imaginatively restored they have been re-bombed for a quarter of a century….
On 25th April Dr Al-Azzawi added: “More war crimes have been committed by American Coalition, yesterday April 24, 2016. The coalition airplanes bombed Rashidiya water treatment plant left side of Mosul city and Yermouk electricity generation station in the right side of Mosul. Through targeting these populations’ life sustaining necessities, the coalition is committing genocidal action towards Mosul residents in the pretext of fighting ISIS.”
Also on 25th April, UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Kate Gilmore, on returning from a week in Iraq wrote starkly of the government: “Iraqis are crying out for fairness, recognition, justice, appreciation and meaningful participation in shaping their future – a process that goes forward and not backwards … We all have responsibilities towards the people of Iraq. While there is an international military coalition in place, a comparably resourced international coalition of practical compassion is also needed to help with the building blocks towards a sustained peace in Iraq.” (3)
In the US military lexicon it seems “compassion” has been replaced by their missiles of choice.
Ms Gilmore also stated that Iraq was being run by a failed government and warned foreign powers not to be “complicit” in its neglect of the plight of normal Iraqis. (4)
Further: “The international community must not allow itself to be made complicit with the failed leadership of Iraq … There is political paralysis in Iraq. There is no government in Iraq”, she stated blisteringly of America and Britain’s illegal, abortive, parliamentary project.
“Our commitment to Liberty is America’s tradition … We stand for human liberty”, concluded Bush on the USS Abraham Lincoln. Were mistruths ever bleaker? And when will George W. Bush, Charles Anthony Lynton Blair and their cohorts answer for their crimes in a Court of Law?
All staff of the Japanese, French, British, Australian, Jordanian, Emirates and Saudi Arabia Embassies have moved in to into the American Embassy, it is being reported.
Entrances have been reported sealed and tight security imposed to protect the Iraq Central Bank and other government banks, says an unconfirmed report. However, the Guardian contradicts stating that: “A guard at a checkpoint said the protesters had not been searched before entering. About ten members of the armed group loyal to Sadr were checking protesters cursorily while government security forces who usually conduct careful searches with bomb-sniffing dogs stood by the side.”…
The further chaos comes just two days after US Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Baghdad in a situation so chaotic for the US’ puppet government that as the New York Times described it (28th April 2016) “ … the political situation in Iraq has become so fluid that Mr. Biden’s team has sometimes been unsure whether officials he planned to meet with would still be in office when he arrived.”
America’s fortress Green Zone has been breached with thousands of protestors breaking in, with one shouting: “You are not staying here! This is your last day in the Green Zone”, according to Al Jazeera (2) who reported that in Parliament: “ … some rioters rampaged through the building and broke into offices, while other protesters shouted: “peacefully, peacefully” and tried to contain the destruction …”
Barbed wire was pulled across the road leading to the Green Zone exits: “preventing some scared lawmakers from fleeing the chaos.”
The hated US imposed and fortified Zone – which was simply central Baghdad for all to wander under Saddam Hussein has finally been breached after thirteen years. Where another period of chaos will end, who knows, but meanwhile diplomats cower in the US Embassy, as factions Iraqis patience finally runs out over the tragedy and disaster that is the US and UK’s illegally imposed “New Iraq.”
“Iraq’s are very quick to revolt”, former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Tareq Aziz, told me in an interview before the invasion, listing the years and the fate of those the uprisings had been against. The decimation since has delayed a further one, but it seems it’s time has arrived.
As for the outcome, updates follow. As we have wondered before in these columns, Embassy roof time for the residents and guests of the US Ambassador – again? Vietnam’s spectre hovers?…
Yemen War: Saudis Support Al Qaeda, Now Claim They Have Defeated Al Qaeda. Saudi Arabia and Houthi Alliance Hold Talks- South Front
Talks aimed at ending Yemen’s war opened in Kuwait on April 21. The delay of the talks is explained by experts by the inability to achieve some key preconditions to start them. For instance, Saudi Arabia had demanded that the Houthi alliance has to hand over all heavy armament to the coalition. It’s obvious that it’s unacceptable for any warring side of the conflict.
The ceasefire exists only on the fronts where the sides can’t inflict a military defeat on each other. Considering the low morale and a poor level of coordination of the Saudi-led forces, they can’t do this almost everywhere. However, the coalition had been used warplanes massively against the Houthi alliance recompensing the situation on the ground.
Separately, Saudi Arabia made an important PR move which followed Obama’s visit to Riyadh. The Saudi-led coalition claimed to have killed more than 800 Al-Qaeda fighters seized the strategic coastal city of Mukalla in Yemen. However, local sources argue that there were no clashes in the area of Mukalla and no casualties among Al-Qaeda, for sure. The coalition made a pact with the terrorists and AQAP withdrew from the city. This move was made amid the US promises to provide additional technical and military aid to the UAE in order to fight jihadists in Yemen
US Navy will join the naval blockade of the country. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia de-facto continues to use AQAP to control different zones of Yemen.
In turn, the Houthi alliance has been expanding the zone of control in Shabwah Governorate and at the Western coast of the country. Thus, the negotiations haven’t even prevented the continuation of local firefights and it’s hard to expect that they could push the conflict to a peaceful solution in general. Moreover, 2 powerful Yemeni political forces: the Southern Movement and the Islamist party of Al-Islah. This is why any possible agreement dividing the spheres of influence in the country among the Houthi movement, Ali Abdullah Saleh and the Saudi-backed forces won’t guarantee a stable balance of powers in the country.
